Renting with an Assistance Dog

November 20, 2018November 20, 2018 tiddlespupadt

Can you rent a home, hotel, campsite etc. with your assistance dog? Can I stay in non pet friendly places? Can I stay in pet friendly places? Can they refuse accommodations because of the assistance dog? Can they charge extra?

Max and Faerie met today and did training together, they did pretty great 😊 Video analysis; ā€œleave itā€ when a ball is involved is a little stressful for Max (hence shake off) because he’s crazy about balls, but he did great leaving it. Faerie on the other hand... well I had to laugh at my comment on her behavior when re-watching it- you’ll see what I mean šŸ¤šŸ˜‚ (embarrassing!) #assistancedogsintraining #dogtraining #assistancedog #tiddlespup #faerieemojipoop #max #labradoodle #bordercollie #andsomething
The Tiddlespup family got a new member last week, meet Meeko, a tiny 8.5 week old male guineapig that belongs to our oldest child. It’s been a slow intro for the dogs and the piggy. They can now sit quietly and have a look/sniff with permission while we have meeko out though they are still very interested in the tiny hairy creature that smells weird. Meeko is named after the raccoon on Pocahontas :)
Miss Faerie baby says happy Valentine’s Day everyone! She’s feeling a little seedy after spending the day with the vet. But the news is good šŸ˜…there’s very, very slight/minute/minuscule evidence of arthritis, definitely not causing her any pain so the vet has given her permission to train, do her PAT and work :) We’ll continue with her fish oil and glucosamine and they’ll keep an eye on it with her check ups but they don’t expect it to progress. Phew! A happy Valentine’s Day indeed :) Mr R made the Valentine’s Day heart today at school for me ā¤ļø
On the weekend Mr R got worked up about not being invited to a birthday (his sister was attending her friends birthday and it bought up his upset over not being able to go to the couple he had been invited to previously), he had been crying a lot so when we stopped at the shop I had him climb into the front with me so Faerie could work her magic, she licked up his tears and he patted her until he calmed down enough to return to his car seat. Faerie rides in the passenger footwell as that’s the safest place for her with 6 humans and 2 dogs in a 7 seater. She’s securely tethered and curls up on the floor and sleeps while we travel. #assistancedogintraining #faerieemojipoop #tiddlespup
When you call ā€œshower timeā€ and the dogs come running... and jump in thinking it’s their turn 🤨 šŸ˜‚ No faerie baby, not tonight, I’m 100% certain your boy doesn’t want a wet doggo in his bed 😊
After toileting on command in the garden, Max went shopping for the first time. We allowed max the freedom to sniff so he could get familiar with such an overloading environment and it be an entirely positive experience for him. Though he sniffed a lot of the food he didn’t attempt to take any and responded when told we were continuing on. Max learnt to tuck between me and the shelves and the register, and had the beginnings of learning directions ā€œthis wayā€ = turn towards/with me. All the staff and customers loved him, he’s a very smily attention seeker šŸ˜‚ (we’ll work with that) We kept the session brief so to not overload. Though he got a lot of exposures and did brilliantly :) he was a little concerned about the automatic door so we practiced that a couple times until it was a nonevent, he seen the cats (one of the cats was a little scared so we moved back) #maxtheprospect #tiddlespup #assistancedogintraining #assistancedog
